José Henrique Dias Pinto Barros, former Coordinator of the National HIV/AIDS Programme, is the new President of the National Health Council, replacing Jorge Simões who stepped down from his position.

The appointment of the Doctor and Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto was published on December 17, in the Government Gazette, through the Resolution of the Council of Ministers No. 175/2018.

The National Health Council is an independent consultation body of the government, created in 2016, and started its activity in May 2017 to ensure citizens’ participation in the definition of health policies and promote a culture of transparency and accountability to society.
